Movement is My Medicine: Team RWB Featured by ESPN

West Point Graduate Zach Polega's Emotional Story of Resilience and Service Highlighted on a National Stage

Movement is my medicine. That’s why I’m so committed to it. It’s a lifestyle. It puts me on stable ground.
— MAJ Zach Polega, Ret. | U.S. Army & Team RWB Member

Introduction

Team Red, White & Blue (Team RWB) member Major Zach Polega (Ret.) was recently featured in a powerful segment on ESPN as part of the network's Veterans Day coverage.

Evocati PR worked with the ESPN production team to organize and facilitate the feature, ensuring Team RWB's mission was presented on a national platform. This placement showcases Team RWB’s commitment to enriching the lives of America’s veterans by connecting them to their community through physical and social activity.

The ESPN feature centers on Polega’s experience honoring his "Alive Day" — the anniversary of an event where his life was nearly lost. A West Point graduate and former member of the Second Ranger Battalion, Polega was severely injured in Afghanistan on November 8, 2018.

Polega, who retired from the U.S. Army in 2014, has since dedicated his life to fitness and wellness. He was quoted in the segment stating, “movement is my medicine,” a compelling maxim to ensure he stays grounded and prioritizes his health and wellbeing.

The feature showcased Polega commemorating his Alive Day with a community workout at Evolution Athletics in Pinehurst, North Carolina. The workouts allow him to celebrate life and his ability to move, while also paying tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

The segment also highlighted Team RWB's record-setting coast-to-coast relay, the Old Glory Ultra Relay, in May, where a team of 12 U.S. military veterans ran over 3,000 miles, carrying a single battle-flown American flag. Polega was an integral member of the team, which was recognized for setting a world record and raising over a million dollars for veterans' health and wellness programs at Team RWB.
