Inside Warriors Heart: Why Evocati PR Goes Beyond the Surface for Client Success
A strategic look at our recent Virginia campus site visit and how purpose-driven PR uncovers the stories that matter most.
Introduction
On May 27, 2026, part of the Evocati PR team—Barrett Y. Bogue, Mark Szymanski, and Tory Hyde—spent a full day on the ground touring the Warriors Heart campus in Virginia.
At Evocati PR (EPR), we believe public relations requires far more than managing email chains or distributing generic press releases. True, purpose-driven PR demands a deep, firsthand understanding of our clients' physical footprint, operational philosophy, and stakeholder community.
This site visit was not a casual meet-and-greet. It was a tactical readout designed to align our strategic communication goals with the frontline reality of veteran and first responder healing. Here is what our team saw, learned, and mapped out for the future of the Warriors Heart mission.

Redefining 'Home' on the Virginia Campus

Touring the facility via Gator and on foot, our team observed a beautiful, lodge-like environment explicitly designed to eliminate the clinical chill often associated with recovery spaces. Fireplaces, large chairs, and coffee tables foster an atmosphere of safety, dignity, and comfort.
Key operational areas we observed during the tour included:
The Intake and Detox Facilities: Clients begin their journey with a thorough, multi-hour intake process with clinicians, followed by a critical transition phase in the detox unit lasting between three and seven days.
Accountability-First Living Spaces: Shared bedrooms house two clients to promote mutual respect and shared responsibility. To encourage deep focus on training, technology use is strictly limited, and clients receive just one hour of phone time per day.
Holistic Healing Environments: From Chef Scott’s kitchen—which operates a diverse eight-week menu cycle so clients never eat the same meal twice—to the Arts & Trades facilities for woodworking, metalworking, painting, and guitar-making, creative expression is baked directly into the recovery model. Outdoor amenities like pickleball courts, a fishing spot, hiking trails, and equine therapy facilities reinforce physical and emotional wellness.
This is Training, Not Rehab

Meeting with Executive Director Mike Marotta, a former Air Force Police Officer who moved to Virginia to open the site in 2023, our team gathered vital insights into the program's cultural language.
Precision in language and culture is paramount in marketing to the military-connected community.
Warriors Heart operates a "training program," not a rehab center. Under no circumstances should the program use clinical shorthand; those enrolled are "clients," not patients. Clients document their daily growth in a personal "Mission File," which many choose to present to their spouses or loved ones upon returning home to serve as an added layer of long-term accountability.
Due to close proximity to local military bases, a significant portion of the client demographic consists of active-duty personnel. Department of Defense command units frequently handle both the drop-off and pick-up of their members, demonstrating immense institutional trust. Warriors Heart also caters to first responders, including law enforcement officers, firefighters, and EMTs.
Post-graduation, clients receive a comprehensive aftercare plan. The campus is actively scaling its alumni network to seamlessly connect graduates back to families and key stakeholders like Task Force Dagger and the Virginia Department of Veterans Services. As Mike noted during our visit, "connection is protection."
Humanizing the Brand with Purpose-Driven Storytelling
Authentic narratives forge deep emotional connections with target audiences. Evocati PR identified three compelling storytelling hooks to spotlight the unique clinical and operational depth of the campus:
The K9 Program: Media pitches that center on a distinct operational hook: clients train their service dogs to navigate daily civilian hurdles, such as TSA security checkpoints. This training forces clients to practice critical emotional regulation skills they must use the moment they "Coin Out" and fly home.
Behind the Scenes with Chef Scott: A digital content feature will highlight Chef Scott's curated eight-week menu cycle, demonstrating how purposeful nutrition and culinary care fuel trauma recovery and cellular healing.
High-Profile Alumni Features:Leveraging the powerful testimonies of notable graduates, such as UFC Fighter Matt Hughes, will inspire prospective clients and reassure them that seeking training is a sign of elite strength.
Pioneering Innovation and Partnership Expansions

An effective public relations strategy must align with future-focused operational growth. Evocati PR is exploring health-tech integrations, including wearable fitness and sleep trackers, to empower clinicians and clients with data-driven insights into recovery metrics.
Additionally, EPR is facilitating a strategic partnership with like-minded veteran service organizations to elevate the physical fitness experience, reinforcing the core philosophy that physical and mental resilience are intertwined.
The Evocati PR Way: Immersion Breeds Impact
When we welcome an organization into the EPR family, we don't sit on the sidelines. We get on the ground, listen to the leadership, and respect the culture.
This deep dive into the Virginia campus of Warriors Heart reflects our unwavering commitment to "PR with a Purpose." By embedding ourselves directly in their mission, we ensure their vital work receives the strategic spotlight and institutional support it earns every single day.
