America's eSports market engaged 495 million viewers in 2020 and is expected to grow exponentially. While the market is tapped primarily by U.S. military recruiters, it should be considered fertile marketing ground for the military-connected community. This landscape analysis of eSports and the military-connected community by the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) provides insight into how the video game industry can build on its existing connections within the veteran community and more.

“Furthermore, eSports may provide opportunities for engagement with the veteran community. A growing number of events and initiatives use eSports as a way to create community among service members and veterans, as well as connect veterans with mental health resources. Efforts to reach these groups are currently disparate, despite overlapping demographics.”

Marketing and communication experts should pay attention to this growing medium for future opportunities to promote services and programs for veterans and military families.
